Borrowing from the great tradition of 'road movies', The Country Wedding is a thoroughly charming and funny look at what happens when you put a squad of ill-matched characters together on a journey none of them are prepared for. Inga and Bardi are a fun and vivacious young couple. She's an alabaster skinned blonde and he a rugged bad boy. After a three year courtship, they decide it's time to tie the knot. Inga has always dreamed of a picturesque wedding in the Icelandic countryside, so the couple plans their nuptials at a darling village church. Though very hip, Inga's also a bit superstitious and doesnt want to see her husband-to-be on the day of the wedding. The only option is to shuttle two buses for the trek from Reykjavik to the chapel. Here begins the hilarity. The sources of the conflict (and the comedy) are the unexpected guests. Bridesmaid Lara forgets to mention that she's bringing along her senile grandmother and a date she's not that into. The bestman who is persona non-grata in the brides eyes shows up...late. And Stefan, cousin to the father of the groom, is gay and hasn't been around in over two-decade. His prescence and that of his younger male lover makes everyone a little uncomfortable. Yet Stefan is more 'involved' than we'd think. The Country Wedding is a sweet comedy about a chaotic wedding and a dysfunctional wedding party. Everyone has a secret that will eventually be exposed, and as cruel as it sounds it's certainly true that what in our lives may be tragic, makes for great laughs when it's happening to someone else.
