Nina Shah's return to her native Scotland is not a joyous homecoming. Gone for three years after running out on her wedding, she returns to Glasgow for
her dad's funeral and is forced to face all the memories and people she left behind-including best friend Bobbi, an aspiring Bollywood Drag Queen. Nina
is taken aback when she discovers that half of the family's Indian restaurant, The New Taj, was lost to pay a gambling debt and when she discovers that the
new co-owner is family friend Lisa things get more complicated. While rummaging through the restaurant, Nina uncovered that before his death her
father had entered the Best in the West Curry Competition and made it to the final round. To her families chagrin she refuses to let go and decides
to pick up the torch...or spoon in this case, and continue on to the final competition - with Lisa's help! Soon the aroma in the kitchen is full of the
scents of ginger, coconut, coriander and cumin but Nina's heart and mind are full with thoughts of Lisa. Afraid to let her family know where her heart
really lays, it's the discovery that she is not the only Shah with a secret that helps her understand that life is like the rule for making a great curry, "Always follow your heart" More scrumptious than a Chicken Shakuti and featuring a soundtrack full of Bollywood classic and pop hits, filmmaker Pratibha Parmar's takes us on a heart warming cinematic journey through the dinner table right into the heart. It is of course a fitting film to pair a DineOUT for women around.
Director Pratibha Parmar will attend screening and discuss the film with the audience.
