The exciting changes of an East Los Angeles neighborhood serve as the background of the gay romantic comedy "East Side Story", in which boy meets boy, complications heat up to a boil, boy loses boy, and ultimately boy…. well, you get the idea.
Diego, a budding Latino chef in his late-20s, has always worked with his grandmother in the family Mexican restaurant, and dreams of one day opening his own. A new neighbor, Wesley, recently has moved in with his very jealous boyfriend Jonathon across the street from Diego – and caught his eye.
The complications…well, there are many: Diego, who is still in the closet, is coming off a hot yet hush-hush relationship with macho realtor Pedro, who in turn has started to date Diego’s fun-loving aunt Bianca ("The Bold and the Beautiful’s" Gladys Jimenez), an underachiever who just came back from Europe, jilted and broke. And Jonathon will stop at nothing to let it be known that Wesley is his and not for Diego to take.
Director Carlos Portugal’s feature debut is a celebration of diversity, identity, and the love that we look for, the love that surprises us, and the love that makes for a very funny and special "East Side Story" that to date already has picked up three Audience Awards. In English and Spanish with English subtitles.
Director Carlos Portugal will attend the screening to discuss the film with the audience.
