THEY CAME TO PLAY celebrates the joy of classical music. With humor and drama, it portrays several multi-talented amateur pianists striving to balance their work, home and musical lives, and then follows them to the International Amateur Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs hosted by the Van Cliburn Foundation in Fort Worth, Texas. Before a distinguished jury and a discerning audience, these inspiring individuals endeavor to perform at near-professional levels in three highly competitive elimination rounds.
The event will take place at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth on Thursday, October 16 and will include an informal performance by several of the contestants featured in the film, which will begin at 5:00PM. A cocktail reception will follow the performance and precede the screening, which starts at 7:15PM. A Q&A with the filmmakers and attending subjects of the documentary will follow the conclusion of the screening.
