Brothers Turner and Bill Ross IV have made a singular career as nonfiction storytellers who capture the vibrant soul of American life. In their previous films “45365,” “Tchoupitoulas” and “Western,” they have roamed from small-town Ohio to New Orleans to a Texas border town on the Rio Grande, each journey an immersive and lyrical occasion vivid with character. “Contemporary Color” is no exception, even as offers a change of focus. It brings the Ross Bros., and a team of talented cinematographers, into Brooklyn’s Barclays Center arena to capture a unique collaboration between all-American color guard teams, whose precision drills and dance routines champion “the sport of the arts,” and pop artists such as St. Vincent, Tune-Yards and Devonte Hynes of Blood Orange – plus David Byrne, who acts as emcee, ringleader and mastermind.
