The Englert is proud
to present Iowa City’s own Grateful Dead tribute Winterland live in concert for
Best of Europe ’72 on Saturday, December 16 at 8 p.m.
The classic live
triple album was recorded during a 22-date tour of Western Europe in early
1972, becoming one of the first certified gold triple-record rock albums.
Europe ’72 features definitive versions of classic Dead songs including “Brown
Eyed Women,” “Jack Straw,” and the pairing of “China Cat Sunflower/I Know You
Rider.”
Musicians from several
different bands active in the Midwest region's vibrant original music scene
come together to explore, emulate, and enjoy the music of The Dead's classic
'69-'78 period. These players come from bands playing in nearly every musical
genre- jazz, funk, country, prog-rock, blues, bluegrass, folk and rock n roll.
When they take the stage together their influences, as disparate as they may
seem, meld together beautifully to make music that can only be labeled as
Grateful Dead music.
