Born Free USA

Shame Untied will be showing the movie Born Free on August 4, 2016. The doors open at 6pm and the movie will begin at 7pm. Movie tickets are free but a minimum of $10 will be ask at the door to help raise money to go towards the animals of Jijiga. Concessions will be available.

Born Free USA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to end the suffering of wild animals in captivity, rescue individual animals in need, protect wildlife – including highly endangered species – in their natural habitats, and encourage compassionate conservation globally. Our work embodies our aim to keep wild in the wild where they rightfully belong, and to do so, we employ a spectrum of education and advocacy initiatives, rescue and care for animals in distress, call for legislative and regulatory changes, and support in situ conservation projects to protect vulnerable species.

We are currently working to rescue nine animals all victims of the wildlife trade who are currently living in small, concrete dens, behind bars at the police station in Jijiga, Ethiopia. The animals in need are three lions (one adult and two tiny cubs, three cheetah (two adult brothers and one cub), and three Kudu.

Born Free USA is seeking support for transport and for their lifetime care. The journey by ground from Jijiga to Addis Ababa is a 14 hour drive through rough terrain and dangerous territory due to political unrest. We hope that we can avoid this treacherous trip and transport them to Addis Ababa by military or private aircraft- a shorter and safer trip for animals and humans alike.

They will be moved to Ensessakotteh, Born Free’s wildlife sanctuary, conservation, and education center located near Addis Ababa where they will be cared for in spacious, natural enclosures for the remainder of their lives.
