Summer 2014. 12-year-old Japanese boy Kyota, who’s never seen without his bright protective hood, and his Scottish teacher Tim, have nurtured an unlikely friendship through their shared experiences of Japan’s worst natural disaster. One day, a mysterious American woman named Molly arrives in town and Kyota learns that she will replace Tim as his teacher—Tim's leaving Japan for good. Kyota must do something to stop Tim from leaving. He comes up with a great idea: to embark on an odd adventure with Tim. Their unusual journey, however, rekindles everyone's recent memories, especially those of Kyota’s mother, Kinuko. It casts a shadow over their struggles during the country’s ongoing recovery from the disaster.
