Description

Welcome to Tultepec, a small town north of Mexico City where life revolves – oh so magnificently! oh so dangerously!– around one thing: Fireworks. The explosives manufactured here feed an entire nation hungry for ecstatic bursts of noise, rainbow-hued convulsions of light and the festive stink of gunpowder. Made by first-time director Viktor Jakovleski and produced by Benh Zeitlin (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”), the documentary revels in the spectacle of a week-long pyrotechnics competition where some participants risk permanent injury to cavort amid volleys of fireworks. You know the phrase, “It’s all fun and games until someone gets an eye poked out?” Well … let this be a reminder!
