BILL EVANS REMEMBERED
A special evening of live music and film paying tribute to the legendary jazz pianist and composer, Bill Evans. At 7:30pm, the Dick Fregulia Bill Evans Tribute Trio will perform an all Bill Evans repertoire on the Vickie Soulier Stage, followed by the brilliant documentary, Time Remembered: The Life and Music of Bill Evans by Bruce Spiegel.
ABOUT THE FILM:
“Eight years in the making, Bruce Spiegel’s touching documentary on the life and music of the late, great, and mysterious pianist is a must-see for jazz history buffs, as well as for anyone who enjoys cool, impressionistic piano—the style Bill Evans pioneered beginning in the early 1950’s and owned and expanded up to his death in 1980 at the age of 51. The categories are broad enough to include scores of listeners. Because isn’t it true that, once one hears him—whether leading his brilliant trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian on Sunday At The Village Vanguard, or anchoring the celestial Miles Davis Kind Of Blue sextet—everyone digs Bill Evans.” — Peter Jurew, All About Jazz
ABOUT THE BAND:
Dick Fregulia’s Bill Evans Tribute Trio was born September 15, 2010, to honor the great jazz pianist 30 years after his death on that date. Featuring Dick Fregulia on piano, Piro Patton on bass and Jimmy Hobson on drums. The goal of the Tribute Trio is to
re-create
the
style
and
spirit
of
the
Bill
Evans
Trio
rather
than
to
duplicate
the
original
arrangements,
and
to
ultimately
honor
the
legacy
of
the Evans trio in the history of piano jazz.
