Description

“Director Sparrow stays unflinchingly focused on the struggle between the two sides, ratcheting up suspense over a tight run time.” – Chaka V. Grier, NOW Toronto

“Sparrow never takes her eyes off Máxima's tremendous story. It's the right choice.” - Andrew Parker, The Gate

A multi-billion dollar corporation meets their match in a fearless Indigenous woman who remains uncowed after years of violent intimidation. From Executive Producer Lesley Chilcott (An Inconvenient Truth) and director Claudia Sparrow comes the incredible true story of an illiterate Peruvian farmer (Máxima Acuña) who stood up to one of the largest gold-mining companies in the world and triumphed. Maxima tracks the journey from the Peruvian Andes all the way through the Peruvian Supreme Court to the door of the World Bank in Washington D.C. as Máxima Acuña fights for justice and to protect the land, the water supply and the indigenous people from environmental destruction at American hands.
