Conversation with Riz Ahmed - Excellence in Acting

No Longer Available

Each year, the Provincetown Film Festival presents the “Excellence in Acting Award” to a film artist, whose admirable body of work pushes the boundaries of the medium, demonstrating originality and innovation. Past Acting honorees include Tilda Swinton, Patricia Clarkson, Vera Farmiga, Alan Cumming, Chloë Sevigny, Gael García Bernal and Parker Posey. This year we’re honored to celebrate the extraordinary actor, writer, creator, producer, musician, and activist Riz Ahmed.

Ahmed became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after artists following the explosive success of HBO’s The Night Of, for which he won an Emmy Award, and was Golden Globe and SAG Award nominated.  Ahmed has starred in successful films including ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, THE SISTERS BROTHERS and VENOM. He first garnered industry attention in festival favorites FOUR LIONS and NIGHTCRAWLER.

In 2020 Ahmed’s already amazing career went to new heights with SOUND OF METAL for which he received Oscar, Golden Globe, and SAG Award nominations for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role. His performance won the National Board of Review and the IFP Gotham Awards for Best Actor, as well as more than fourteen leading critics groups – the most “Best Actor” awards of 2021, to date.

His most recent feature film is MOGUL MOWGLI, which we’re proud to have in our Festival lineup. Ahmed co-wrote, starred and produced the film, with Bassam Tariq directing. The debut feature from Ahmed’s production company Left Handed, the film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival where it won the Fipresci International Critics’ Prize. Strand Releasing acquired the film and plans a Fall 2021 US release.

It is with great pride that the Provincetown Film Festival honors Riz Ahmed as our 2021 Excellence in Acting honoree.

Conversation will be available to stream Saturday, June 19 through June 25.
