British historian Lucy Jane Santos will take us on a tour of all the best nightlife spots (nightclubs, bars, and hotels) in 1920s and 30s London in this virtual presentation back in time. The lecture will be peppered with cocktail demos of some of the popular cocktails of the day.

 

We will visit – to name a few Art Deco gems– the Savoy American bar, the Regents Palace Hotel, the Salted Almond Bar, the Café de Paris and Claridge’s; meet bartenders and customers and learn about some iconic cocktails from the period. All virtually of course.

Presenter Bio:

Lucy Jane Santos is an expert in the history of 20th century leisure, health, and beauty.

 

After completing an MA in Arts and Heritage Management Lucy worked for several private members clubs and societies in London including The Arts Club, the Authors’ Club, the International Wine and Food Society and the Gourmet Society.

 

Lucy has appeared as an occasional contributor on TV and radio, and her historical research has been featured by History Today, BBC History Revealed, The Telegraph, The Scotsman, the Daily Express and on the BBC2 documentary, Makeup: A Glamorous History. Her most recent project is as Creative Consultant for the documentary Obsessed With Light a film that tells the story of the performance artist Loïe Fuller.

 

She has been a judge for the Historical Writers’ Association Non-Fiction Crown, the recipient of the Stephen Joseph Research Award and was the Non-Fiction Writer In Residence for the Stay-at-Home! International Literature Festival (2020) and is a founder member of the Art Deco Society UK.
