Slow Dance the Killing Ground
“The play Slow Dance On The Ground, written by the late William Hanley,
is staged in a candy store downtown Brooklyn—catering to meat-delivering truck
drivers. Glas--a German Jew, a communist, and owner of the shop is on the
run--having fled German when Stalin, leader of the communist world, reached his
Pact with Hitler. Glas left his son and wife under the iron fist of madman
Hitler.
The eighteen-year-old Randall, a black
genius, barrels through the door of the candy store on the run from the police.
He has killed his prostitute mom. Twenty-year-old Rose, a Jew, pregnant, is on
the run--in search of an abortion clinic. She collapses as she pushes through
the door. In Glas' candy shop, the three do a SLOW DANCE with
the life and death--swarming around them as they move about in life--on the
RUN.”
