February 24 and 25 - Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. both days. Scheduled to show on 35mm film.
What it is: An affluent widow finds herself falling in love with her gardener, a man who lives a Thoreau-inspired simple life. The blossoming romance between an older woman and a younger man, from two different worlds, scandalizes her affluent friends and college-aged children.
Why we're showing it: All February long, the Artcraft is featuring some of the most romantic films of all time. In the 1950s, director Douglas Sirk helmed some of the greatest film romances of all time, including All That Heaven Allows. His work has influenced a diverse group of later directors, including Godard, Tarantino, Lynch, Fassbinder, Almodovar, Wong Kar-wai and more. Beautifully shot in Technicolor, the romance between Wyman and Hudson still resonates today.
