March 24 and 25 - Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. both days. The Book Club event is Friday at 6:15 p.m. Scheduled to show on 35mm film.
What it is: In 1960s Tulsa, tensions flare between two youth gangs divided by class. Two young "greasers" have to go on the run after a fight turns deadly. Based on the novel by S. E. Hinton.
Why we're showing it: The Outsiders has been a staple of high school reading lists since its publication. The adaptation by legendary director Francis Ford Coppola features many young actors who would go on to stardom, including Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Emilio Estevez, and Rob Lowe, as well as the principal actors.
But wait, there's more: The Artcraft Book Club meeting will be held at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, in the Artcraft cottage at 49 E Madison Street. Presented in partnership with the Wild Geese Bookshop (just across the street from the cottage), the Artcraft Book Club explores the relationship between the written word and cinema, connecting adapted films with their source material. To attend, purchase the Friday, 6:15 p.m. ticket (which includes entry to the film). Attendance is limited to 15 people. FHI members can reserve up to 2 complimentary tickets. Books may be purchased in advance from the Wild Geese Bookshop - book purchase is not required to attend. The Book Club will include in-depth discussions including plot points, so please be aware if you have not yet seen the film or read the book.
- Tickets on sale for members 1/18 between 11am and noon; for the general public, on 1/25.
If you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with a sick individual, for the safety of others, please do not attend. Refunds are available for illnesses - please contact the Will Call office by phone or email.
Effective June 1, the Artcraft is instituting a 3.25% fee on credit card orders to cover the cost of credit card company fees.
