No Bears (orig Khers nist)
“In the auteur’s latest masterpiece, every moment is suffused with not just purpose, but captivating beauty.”
- Ann Hornaday, Washington Post
“ 'This Is Not a Film,' 'Closed Curtain,' 'Taxi' and '3 Faces' have all been brilliant, but “No Bears” transcends them as both outlawed artistry and a moral interrogation of that art itself.”
- Bob Strauss, San Francisco Chronicle
“You leave feeling like you’ve just seen a truly extraordinary late work produced by one of the era’s greatest working auteurs, quickly followed by the sense of experiencing a sucker punch.”
- David Fear, Rolling Stone
SYNOPSIS: In his new virtuosic sleight-of-hand — completed shortly before his imprisonment in July 2022 — Jafar Panahi plays a fictionalized version of himself, who has relocated to a rural border town in Iran to remotely direct a new film in nearby Turkey. While there, he finds himself thrust in the middle of a local scandal, confronting the opposing pulls of tradition and progress.
