The title character John Dee recalls his experience of being discovered in the hills of East Tennessee and cast to work on Terrence Malick’s WWII epic The Thin Red Line, which inspired him to join the military himself shortly after the tragedies of 9/11 and eventually volunteer for a combat deployment to Afghanistan where he would begin to carve a path of self-rescue from his own tragic childhood.
