What it is: Upon being told that she is the last of her kind, a unicorn journeys forth from her forest to see if she can find others. Aided by the hapless wizard Schmendrick and Molly Grue, she must face the cruel King Haggard and the dreaded Red Bull.
Why we're showing it: Adapted from the beloved fantasy novel by Peter S. Beagle, The Last Unicorn is an inventive, imaginative story, with memorable characters and a wistful tone. Produced by Rankin/Bass, many of the Japanese animators who worked on The Last Unicorn would later form the core of legendary animation house Studio Ghibli.
