A Moroccan woman's search for truth tangles with a web of lies in her family history in this highly creative docu-drama. Using a scale-model of her old Moroccan neighborhood, populated by handmade figurines (sculpted by the director’s father, dressed by her mother), filmmaker Asmae ElMoudir fuses personal and national history as she reflects on the 1981 Bread Riots, drawing out connections to modern Morocco, much to the chagrin of her domineering and downright scary grandmother. Are some truths better left unspoken?
