What it is:Two widowed women from different races raise their daughters together and start a business. As the daughters grow, the strain of race and class align them on different paths.
Why we're showing it: The first adaptation of Fannie Hurst's groundbreaking novel, Imitation of Life is a heartfelt melodrama, exploring issues of class, gender and especially race. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
