Told in the now-pervasive “found-footage” format, Lake Mungo is as much a psychological thriller as a horror movie.

The film has a strong reputation among those in the know. It’s a favorite of horror-movie maven and series presenter Eric Ford, who says “Unlike other found footage horror films like Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity, Lake Mungo doesn't rely on jump scares, it creeps ever so slowly under your skin, staying there long after the credits roll.”

A remarkably assured debut from Aussie Joel Anderson, the film deals with grief and the harrowing 12 months that follow the accidental death of 16-year-old Alice Palmer. After her family buries Alice, a series of inexplicable, strange and possibly supernatural events lead them to seek the help of a parapsychologist … many surprises ensue. Lake Mungo is a supernatural mystery and ghost story told as a documentary that explores just how the dead can forever haunt the living.
