Showings

Innovation Zone Fri, Jan 24 5:00 PM
Motorcycle Madness Build a bike to travel up steep slopes and speed down straightaways to graph how much energy you use.
Innovation Zone Fri, Feb 7 5:00 PM
Secret Stash Design a safe deposit box to store all your valuables and program your own combination lock to keep them safe.
Innovation Zone Fri, Feb 21 5:00 PM
Bionic Blocks Enhance your skills by creating a pair of grabbers to move “hazardous” materials around safely.
Innovation Zone Fri, Mar 7 5:00 PM
Robot Racing Assemble an advanced driving base and navigate obstacle courses with code, just like a real Lego robotics competition!
Lab A Sun, Oct 19 1:00 PM
Oct 19 : Out of Order Practice your coding skills by debugging a pre-made machine. First build a cart to haul around objects, then change the code it runs on to improve its design.
Lab A Sun, Nov 16 1:00 PM
Nov 16: Hopper Race Learn about the engineering design process and how limitations can inspire creativity. Design multiple prototypes to find the most effective way to move a robot without using wheels.
Lab A Sun, Dec 21 1:00 PM
Dec 21: Keep It Safe Create a safe deposit box to keep all your valuables and learn about conditional statements to create a combination lock for security!
Lab A Sat, Jan 17, 2026 1:00 PM
Jan 17: Bionic Blocks Test the efficiency of two different grabber designs and study what makes them different, then design your own to complete challenges.
Lab A Sat, Feb 21, 2026 1:00 PM
Feb 21: Robot Racing Build an Automated Driving Base and make precise and controlled movements using code. Practice designing for real Lego Robotics competitions by adding elements to your robot and teaching it to follow instructions by itself.

Description

Lego Spike Robotics

Each session introduces a new robotics concept through hands-on exploration and creative problem-solving. Students will dive into the world of robotics by building and programming robots using LEGO® Education SPIKE™, where imagination meets engineering. Unless otherwise noted, LEGO SPIKE will be the primary platform used. Whether students are new to robotics or ready to level up, each workshop offers a fresh opportunity to build, code, and innovate.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to education@whitakercenter.org.

Please Note: Science Center exploration before your workshop is NOT included in the price of your workshop.  You can purchase a discounted Science Center and/or Digital Cinema ticket(s) for the day of the workshop at our box office.

Plan Ahead & Secure Your Spot! We’re thrilled to offer engaging programs at the Science Center—and we want to make sure you don’t miss out! To help us prepare and ensure the best experience for everyone, we kindly ask that tickets be purchased in advance.

Please note: Programs require a minimum number of participants. If minimum enrollment is not met, we will notify participants two days before the scheduled date that the program is canceled.
