What it is: Adapted from John Steinbeck's novel, East of Eden is a retelling of the myth of Cain and Abel in 1910s California. On the cusp of World War One, two brothers vie for their religious father's attentions.
Why we're showing it: James Dean's first starring role, East of Eden immediately launched him to super-stardom, changing the way screen acting was done forever, and influencing generations of actors. Of his three major roles, it was the only film released during his lifetime. Part of the James Dean Festival, celebrating the storied actor whose career was tragically cut short. Festival passes are available here.
All showtimes begin with the national anthem and a classic cartoon. Evening regular series showtimes start with an approximately 15 minute preshow with prize drawings, plus the anthem and cartoon.
