Description

UnCommon Law presents a special screening of Academy Award nominee SING SING, followed by Q&A and panel discussion.

IN-PERSON GUESTS:

  • Sean San Jose, Sing Sing co-star (as Mike Mike)
  • Lesley Currier, Managing Director of Marin Shakespeare Company
  • Troy Williams, former client, current UnCommon Law Advisory Board member

This screening is hosted by UnCommon Law, a nonprofit that supports people navigating California's discretionary parole process through trauma-informed legal representation, mental health counseling, legislative and policy advocacy, and in-prison programming led by people who have been through the process themselves.

SYNOPSIS: Divine G (Colman Domingo), imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn't commit, finds purpose by acting in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men, including a wary newcomer (Clarence Maclin), in this stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art, starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors.

"Brimming with compassion and punctuated by humour, this is a moving look at prison and prisoners. It’s both infuriating and inspirational to see so much beauty in such a harsh environment."
- Helen O'Hara, Empire Magazine

"An affectionate, tender film about brotherhood and forgiveness. "
- Pippa Bailey, New Statesman

"In a story about art’s transformative potential, it’s the wondrous slow bloom of their bond that most distils Sing Sing’s poignant power."
- Little White Lies
