About rebellious students at an English boarding school who violently revolt against the oppressive and archaic system. Led by Mick Travis (Malcolm McDowell), the students' defiance escalates from petty rebellion to a surreal, apocalyptic final battle during the school's Founders' Day celebration. The film is a surreal and realistic critique of institutional power, authority, and conformity.

The first of the Mick Travis Trilogy followed by O Lucky Man! (1973) and Britannia Hospital (1982).
