A testament to the power of imagination and storytelling, Crocodile follows a group of young Nigerians, dubbed The Critics, who, armed with a single cell phone, begin making sci-fi films in their backyards, creating movies that are heavily influenced by mainstream American fare but decidedly African. These handmade, innovative films connect with audiences – on YouTube, they rack up more than a million views. Shot over 13 years, Crocodile follows the team through their lives, as they deal with money, politics, and, of course, movies. It also spends plenty of time on their creative process, which involves both struggle and success, including, in one intoxicating sequence, their first visit to an actual film set in Lagos. ~SM
