In September of 2007, through funds provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission Funds for At-Risk Youth grant awarded through the Nashville Film Festival, inner city teens came together the Preston Taylor Boys and Girls Club from different Nashville neighborhoods to film a story that is very close to their hearts - and in the minds of teens everywhere. They decided to take a risk, maybe raise a few eyebrows, and make a short film about teen sex and its consequences, to be told frankly and be a wake-up call to teens, parents and their communities. On the final weekend of the four-week project they worked with Nashville's top-notch professional film crew to make the resulting short Alone in the Real World, about a teenage couple facing the peer pressure to "go all the way" and what may happen. Alone in the Real World, Together documents the process leading to the film - the brainstorming, the improvised scenes leading to the script - but more importantly interviews with these articulate young people who speak frankly about sex and what they wanted to present in the film. As one participant noted, "We want to make it real, not some after school special."

Along with the documentary you will see the completed short film, Alone in the Real World, directed by Gabriel Tolliver, with cinematography by Pouria Montazeri and edited by Jonathon Rogers.

In attendance: the Preston Taylor Teens, Julie Alexander, Gabriel Tolliver, the film crew and other special guests
