The Days to Come is the third in Carlos Marques-Mercet’s dissection of intense relationships hampered by external circumstances. 10.000 Km, shown at VTIFF in 2015, depicted a relationship conducted through the internet. Hope focused on couples who didn’t always communicate in their mother tongue. The Days to Come presents the life of a couple under one roof and under the microscope — from conception to the birth of their child. Over nine months they will have to learn what it will mean to be the three of them, despite not having had the time to learn how to be just the two of them. Although a fiction film, the film takes advantage of the actor’s actual pregnancy and is shot in cinema vérité style, as it explores how difficult it can be to share the process of this profoundly transformative experience. As one of our programmers wrote: “Intimate boy-knocks-up-girl story embossed with real pregnancy (no pillows here!) finds the spine and walks all over it.” ~OY?
