When a Hollywood producer approaches filmmaker Ross McElwee about remaking his classic documentary SHERMAN'S MARCH, he begins looking back on his life and decades-long career, revisiting the people and places that shaped his journey. Although McElwee recorded many major moments in his life, there remains a shattering absence: his late son Adrian, who left behind hours of personal video footage and the aspiration to be a different kind of filmmaker.
